Summary of the Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM) Meeting and the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors (APAME) Convention 2017, Vientiane, Laos
Our event in Vientiane started on 17th August 2017 with WPRIM and APAME meetings at the University of Health Sciences. Thirteen temporary advisors, seven observers and two WHO staffs participated in the WPRIM meeting. Representatives of national selection committees from 8 member states; China, Japan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Mongolia attended this meeting. There were no representatives from Brunei, Cambodia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Viet Nam. We discussed about the current status of current WPRIM database, new WPRIM platform, and approved all the recommended new journals. This was followed by discussions on the training workshops, and other WPRIM activities.
APAME board meeting followed WPRIM meeting. We had reports from four committees; Editorial Policy and Ethics Committee, Education Committee, IT and Library Committee, APAMED Central Committee, followed by a summary of the WPRIM meeting conducted earlier. Survey on the national educational programs was proposed as an activity of Education Committee. APAME will promote APAMED central to other nations in the Asia Pacific region. The APAME convention 2018 was discussed. The board decided to have the APAME 2018 convention at the IBP International Convention Center in Bogor, Indonesia on 17-19 July, 2018, in conjunction with the convention of the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE). The meeting ended with a small ceremony to recognize the contributions of Charles Patrick Raby and Marie Villemin Partow to WPRIM and APAME.
